3 Dec 2014

Etisalat’s Sri Lankan unit is expanding its 2G and 3G network coverage via the deployment of 200 base stations in 100 days, across eight districts in the country. The project is planned for completion by the end of January 2015 and is part of the cellco’s coverage and capacity expansion programme. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that Middle Eastern-backed Etisalat is the third placed mobile operator in Sri Lanka with 20.3% of the country’s subscribers at 30 June 2014, while at the same date its 3G coverage extended to approximately 70% of the island’s population.
