Vodafone achieves 450Mbps download speeds in LTE-A trial

2 Dec 2014

Vodafone Portugal has announced that it achieved downlink transmission speeds of 450Mbps while testing Long Term Evolution Advanced (LTE-A) equipment in conjunction with vendor partner Ericsson. The trial was carried out in laboratory conditions, the cellco notes.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Vodafone’s 2600MHz LTE network went live in March 2012. At launch the company covered all 18 district capitals: Lisbon, Porto, Aveiro, Beja, Braganca, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Evora, Faro, Guarda, Leiria, Portalegre, Santarem, Setubal, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real, Viseu and Braga, and the country’s two autonomous regions, namely the Azores and Madeira. Vodafone’s LTE network currently offers population coverage of approximately 90%, following the introduction of 800MHz ‘digital dividend’ spectrum in rural areas.
