A1 Telekom Austria introduces LTE-A in Graz; Ericsson deployment complements Slovenian launch

26 Nov 2014

A1 Telekom Austria, working in conjunction with Swedish vendor Ericsson, has switched on its Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) network in Graz using carrier aggregation (CA) technology. The new network uses a pair of 20MHz frequency blocks in the 800MHz and 2600MHz frequency bands, supporting theoretical downlink speeds of up to 300Mbps.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, Telekom’s Slovenian subsidiary Si.Mobil recently confirmed that its own LTE-A network has gone live in six cities, including Ljubljana and Maribor. In terms of group-wide LTE coverage, Telekom notes that its subsidiaries now claim the following 4G footprints: A1 Telekom Austria (52%), Si.Mobil (68%), Vip Operator (40% of Macedonia) and Vipnet (23% of Croatia).
