Ukrtelecom closes Sevastopol branch

21 Oct 2014

The supervisory board of Ukrainian PSTN operator Ukrtelecom has decided to close the company’s Sevastopol branch, the telco disclosed in a statement released via the National Commission on Securities and Stock Market of Ukraine, as reported by Interfax. Previously, Ukrtelecom had stopped providing many services in the Crimean city, including long-distance and international telephony, internet access and data transmission, and mobile (TriMob) services, leaving only local telephony on offer on its network, due to what it called ‘unlawful’ intervention by local authorities, which had announced a plan to transfer services to a Russian-owned operator. Ukrtelecom continues to offer services in other parts of the Russian-controlled Crimean peninsula for the time being.
