Dutch operator KPN has finished rolling out its 3G UMTS-900 network, it announced in a press release, ending a project it began in Q3 2013 to augment its existing 2100MHz W-CDMA/HSPA network coverage using a portion of refarmed GSM spectrum. KPN announced completion on 14 October 2014 with the activation of 900MHz W-CDMA sites in the south-westerly region of Zeeland. The lower frequency allows for improved 3G mobile coverage indoors and in urban areas, and reduces the need to switch user connections from 3G to slower 2.5G mobile internet speeds.
