Vietnamese-backed cellco Bitel, which has offered mobile services since July this year but only ‘officially’ launched its brand earlier this week, has said that it is targeting signing up 500,000 subscribers before the end of the year. La Republica quotes deputy manager Erick Navarrete as saying that Bitel’s network covers 80% of the population: ‘We have more than 2,000 antennas at national level with a plan coverage to gradually grow.’ The company also has 63 retail stores across 25 regions, including in ‘the most remote areas of Peru, such as Iquitos,’ Bitel general manager Hoang Quoc Quyen added. The senior official went on to say that the company had invested USD400 million to deploy its network, including its 15,000km fibre-optic cable network.
