Cable & Wireless Dominica (LIME), owned by UK-based Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC), has announced the launch of the country’s first 4G data network. At a launch ceremony on 8 October, the full service provider confirmed that the ‘Superfast 4G’ network will initially be offered to business users only, providing data-only tariff plans. LIME has invested more than USD4.5 million to deploy its island-wide 4G network, which is understood to be based on Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology operating in the 700MHz band, and has already rolled out 54 base stations covering the majority of the island. With more sites due to be installed, LIME says its 4G deployment will be complete by the end of this month.
