Eircom signs EUR80 million contract with Ericsson

6 Oct 2014

Irish telecommunications provider Eircom has announced the signing of a EUR80 million (USD100 million) contract with Ericsson. The Swedish equipment supplier will become ‘the sole vendor for Eircom’s radio access solutions for 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution), 3G and 2G mobile technologies across Ireland’. The agreement includes equipment, software and support services, as well as incorporating multi-standard radio base station equipment from the Ericsson RBS 6000 family, LTE RAN software and upgrading existing 2G and 3G access network software.

Eircom’s acting CEO, Richard Moat, said: ‘By selecting Ericsson, we now have a consistent technology supplier across our entire mobile network…Eircom was the first operator to deliver 4G services in Ireland. This was supported with Ericsson equipment and we are pleased to build on the relationship by announcing this five year exclusive contract.’
