Eircom chooses GE to launch new broadband network

25 Sep 2014

Ireland’s national telecommunications provider, Eircom, has selected GE’s Smallworld Network Inventory System to support the rollout of its new broadband network across the country, replacing the multiple systems previously in place and centralising the entire network under one platform. According to Telecompaper, GE’s Quick Start programme enabled implementation of the project which is intended to provide enhanced voice, internet and digital television services to customers, while the platform will deliver an assets inventory of Eircom’s nationwide copper access network and facilitate the design of the telco’s next-generation infrastructure.

As noted in TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Eircom is Ireland’s dominant telecoms company with 36.8% of the retail broadband subscriber market, reporting 718,000 high speed connections at end-June 2014.
