RomTelecom, Cosmote united under Deutsche Telekom’s branding

15 Sep 2014

German communications giant Deutsche Telekom (DT) announced in a press release that, as from 13 September 2014 Romanian fixed line operator RomTelecom and its sister cellco Cosmote Romania have been rebranded under the Telekom Romania banner, while jointly adopting the official trademark ‘T’ logo of the DT group. DT said its marketing slogan ‘Life is for sharing’ has also been adopted in its Romanian translation ‘Experiente Impreuna’. Telekom Romania Mobile Communications (formerly Cosmote) and Telekom Romania Communications (formerly RomTelecom) are both majority-owned by Greek telecoms group OTE, which is itself 40%-owned and joint-managed by DT. Both companies have begun delivering unified customer services from a single point of contact under the new ‘T’ brand, via integrated fixed and mobile shops, a unified call centre and a new unified website (telekom.ro), plus common social media channels. ‘Adding Romania to the Magenta map, is a natural step in the evolution of Deutsche Telekom’s footprint in Europe. It is in line with our strategy to offer the best customer experience driven by technology leadership,’ said Claudia Nemat, Board Member Europe and Technology at DT.

Romanian customers will be able to access integrated Telekom products and services, all-inclusive converged offers, and new multiscreen TV services. In related news, Telekom Romania has selected Viaccess-Orca’s Voyage-TV Everywhere platform to drive its upcoming new IPTV and over-the-top (OTT) multiscreen service, ‘Telekom TV.’ Viaccess-Orca served as the primary system integrator on the project which also involved third-party technology partners Cap Gemini, Friendly Technologies, Broadpeak, Harmonic, Accedo, and Zenterio, with the Zenterio operating system served on Kaonmedia’s set-top boxes. Using Viaccess-Orca’s Voyage platform, which includes the company’s RiGHTv unified service delivery platform and Compass content discovery platform, Telekom Romania can deliver a wide range of content, including live television, video on demand (VoD) and catch-up TV, to subscribers on any screen.
