Digicel Jamaica has completed its takeover of triple-play cable operator Telstar Cable for an undisclosed sum, having received permission from the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica, the Jamaica Observer writes. Digicel has said it now plans to invest heavily to expand the coverage of its newly acquired network and to develop new services for its subscribers. Barry O’Brien, CEO of Digicel Jamaica commented on the deal: ‘We are thrilled to have completed the acquisition of Telstar today…This acquisition further cements Digicel’s ongoing commitment to investing in Jamaica – and with it, customers across the country can expect bigger, better subscriber TV services in the near future.’ By ramping up its presence in the broadband and TV markets, Digicel hopes to compete more effectively with rival full service providers LIME – its sole challenger in the cellular market – and Flow Jamaica.
