Shareholders of Omani telecoms operator Nawras have approved during an Ordinary General Meeting a board recommendation to rebrand the company to Ooredoo. Qatar’s Ooredoo Group, which holds a 55% stake in Nawras, officially announced its change in name from Qatar Telecom in February last year, and since then the new identity has been gradually rolled out across the group footprint. Commenting on the planned rebranding, Nawras chairman Sayyid Amjad Mohammed Al Busaidi said: ‘This is an exciting time and a strategic step forward for our company. With this rebrand, we will continue our commitment … to provide the best value and offers to our customers as well as … to invest in the best available technology. The change reflects the global strength of the Ooredoo group and enables us to share the latest products and practices with our customers and reinforces our passion for supporting His Majesty’s Vision 2020 for supporting growth and development of local businesses and youth within the Sultanate.’ Nawras added that the date for the rebrand will be ‘announced in due course’.
