United Group, the Netherlands-based holding company controlled by investment firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR), is said to be in talks to acquire Sarajevo-based cableco M&H Company, Intellinews.com has reported, citing an announcement by Bosnian TV channel TeVe.ba. Henrik Kraft, the head of KKR’s technology and communications team in Europe, was quoted as saying: ‘Such investments provide direct benefits to the citizens via creating jobs and enhancing the quality of services, and also serve as an example to other foreign investors who consider investing in Bosnia & Herzegovina.’
United Group already has a presence in Bosnia via its Telemach cable subsidiary, while M&H Company offers cable TV, broadband and fixed telephony services in Sarajevo, Kakanj, Zenica and Travnik. The cableco’s networks support maximum download speeds of up to 100Mbps, with the premium downlink available via its ‘Ultra 1’ package.
As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in March this year KKR sealed its acquisition of the United Group – which includes among its subsidiaries Serbia Broadband (SBB) and Telemach Slovenia – from Mid Europa Partners. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) co-invested EUR50 million alongside KKR in the transaction. Since the takeover, United Group has been linked with a number of regional buyouts, and in late-July acquired Montenegrin cableco Broadband Montenegro (BBM) from local businessman Veselin Barovic and his Slovenian partners.
