Carrier Pre-Selection to arrive on Isle of Man next month; WLR expected by year-end

10 Sep 2014

The Isle of Man Communications Commission has announced that phone customers will soon have a choice of providers for fixed line call services, via next month’s introduction of Carrier Pre-Selection (CPS). Communications Commission chairman Juan Watterson commented: ‘The Commission is committed to maintaining a regulatory environment where telecoms operators can offer consumers a range of products and services, while encouraging investment and innovation for the good of the Island’s citizens and its economy.’

CPS is a mechanism that allows end-users to select, in advance, alternative communications providers to carry their calls without having to dial a prefix or install any special equipment at their premises. Going forward, the watchdog notes that it expects to introduce Wholesale Line Rental (WLR) by the end of 2014, increasing consumer choice further.
