The privatisation of Vietnam’s second largest wireless network operator, MobiFone, is expected to be completed by the end of 2015, Reuters reports, citing an interview with a company executive in the Dau Tu (Investment) newspaper. Last month MobiFone was hived off from state-run national PTO Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Corporation (VNPT), ahead of a sale of shares in the cellco via an initial public offering (IPO). MobiFone is required to complete and submit its privatisation plan to the government by the end of this year, with the process slated for completion in 2015. According to the report, MobiFone will look at financial and technology potentials and good governance while selecting foreign investors. VNPT has been ordered to restructure its operations to increase competition in the telecoms market; the company also owns the mobile market’s third largest player Vinaphone.
