Strong growth from voice and data services, combined with improved cost management has seen Idea Cellular register what it claims is its highest ever incremental revenue growth, of INR5.157 billion (USD85.59 million) in a quarter, with total revenues increasing from INR70.406 billion in the company’s Q4 2014 (ended 31 March 2014) to INR75.562 billion three months later. The cellco booked a 12.2% year-on-year increase in minutes on its network to 165.2 billion, whilst mobile data (both 2G and 3G) usage expanded by 136% y-o-y to 32.5 billion MB. In terms of subscribers, meanwhile, Idea claimed a total of 139.0 million customers, including 27.874 million data subscribers (-9.8% y-o-y) of which 10.6 million were 3G users (+92.7%).
The strong operational performance led to an improvement in EBITDA from INR18.436 billion in the three months to end-June 2013 to INR22.664 billion in the period under review and EBITDA margin increased to 30.0% at end-June 2014 from 28.2% a year earlier. As such, net profits more than doubled y-o-y and almost doubled quarter-on-quarter, leaping to INR10.117 billion from INR4.829 billion in fiscal Q1 2014, and INR5.138 billion in Q4.
