Orange launches IP PoP in Abidjan

17 Jul 2014

Orange Group has announced that it has launched a large-capacity IP Point of Presence (PoP) in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. The Ivorian port city has been selected to house the infrastructure because it already acts as a landing point for the 17,000km African Coast to Europe (ACE) submarine cable, which connects a number of countries along the west coast of Africa, and is co-owned by Orange Group. The decision to deploy the IP PoP facility in Abidjan will allow for optimal connectivity with the Orange Group’s regional networks. An IP PoP is part of the technical infrastructure equipment necessary to enable local networks to access the internet through an interconnection point with long-distance carrier networks.
