Chinese vendor Huawei has announced a joint development agreement with Spanish telecoms giant Telefonica for the deployment of optical distribution network (ODN) solutions, including the Huawei FastConnect solution. According to Huawei, the deal will allow Telefonica to tackle fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) challenges and to improve its fibre deployment process. It is understood that Telefonica has selected Huawei’s customised ODN solutions for its FTTH network, such as outdoor connectivity elements, which will reportedly improve the efficiency of the deployment. Commenting on the deal, Daniel Paul, Telefonica Spain Access Network Director, noted: ‘The ODN is a fundamental piece of the FTTH deployment. Huawei, with its adaptability and plug-and-play ODN solutions, such as FastConnect, has improved our FTTH broadband services deployment efficiency and helped to implement our project.’
