Vietnamese telecoms group Viettel generated revenue of VND90 trillion (USD4.2 billion) in the first half of this year, an increase of 28% from the year-ago period, Saigon Times cites the firm’s deputy general director, Hoang Son, as saying. The military-owned company, which has overseas operations in Cambodia, Laos, Haiti, Peru, Mozambique, Timor-Leste and Cameroon, said that its international business accounted for VND12 trillion of total revenue in 1H14. Commenting on further investment opportunities, Son said that Viettel is seeking to enter other African markets and is negotiating with partners in several countries including Tanzania, Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The report also cites senior officials of the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) as saying that Viettel has signed ‘a number of cooperation agreements’ with Cuban companies during a recent visit to the island.
