Peru’s Ministry of Transport & Communications (MTC) has urged local authorities to cooperate with providers on the deployment of telecoms infrastructure, noting that a number of operators had encountered difficulties in obtaining municipal permits to install aerials. Telecompaper writes that deputy minister of communications Raul Perez-Reyes sought to dismiss health concerns regarding mobile sites, explaining that the radiation from base stations reach just 1.5% of the maximum permitted amount and does not pose a risk to the health of citizens. Mr Perez Reyes went on to say that the withholding of permits could distort competition and result in higher tariffs.
