Pakistan’s government has announced that financial relief for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the North Waziristan Agency (NWA) will be provided through mobile SIMs, The News writes. Sector regulator the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is working with China Mobile Pakistan (CMPak), which operates under the ‘Zong’ name, and the FATA Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) to distribute SIMs to IDPs for the disbursement of aid in the region. The project has been launched to provide support for citizens in NWA displaced by the Pakistani military’s ongoing offensive against militants in the lawless region, which borders Afghanistan. Zong has provided free SIMs for the relief effort, whilst the PTA is supervising the distribution process, working with the operator to resolve any difficulties.
