m:tel of Bosnia to launch MVNO in Austria

7 Jul 2014

Bosnia’s Telekom Srpske, which operates under the m:tel brand name, has confirmed that it is in the process of setting up a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) unit in Austria. In a filing with the Banja Luka Stock Exchange, the Bosnian telco noted that it had registered m:tel Austria with the Viennese authorities, with a start-up capital of EUR35,000 (USD47,730).

The identity of m:tel’s mobile network operator partner has not yet been confirmed, but TeleGeography notes that, as part of Hutchison’s 2013 takeover of Orange, H3G Austria must provide, on agreed terms, wholesale access to its network for up to 30% of its capacity to up to 16 MVNOs over the course of the next ten years – making it the likeliest candidate.
