GNC-ALFA launches AMD1 Wi-Fi offer

4 Jul 2014

Rostelecom-owned Armenian alternative operator GNC-ALFA has launched a summer promotion, offering customers Wi-Fi internet access for just AMD1 (USD0.00245). In a press release yesterday, the company says that the offer is open to all existing broadband internet customers – excepting those on its entry-level ‘Duo’ and ‘Duo Mini’ tariff plans.

Last month, GNC-ALFA signed an agreement with national PTO ArmenTel allowing it to use the latter’s network facilities. The altnet submitted a request to ArmenTel requesting rights to lease part of its infrastructure to enable its geographic expansion in Armenia and has now agreed to pay AMD1.72 million (USD4,162) a year – plus other payments specified under local law – to do so. GNC-ALFA is a leading altnet providing fixed telephone services and broadband access. It operates fibre-optic lines with a total length of over 2,500km covering 80% of Armenia. Rostelecom plans to invest USD10 million into its Armenian subsidiary in 2014, although the figure is lower than the USD15 million spent in 2013.
