Manx Telecom on track to launch 4G with 95% population coverage this summer

1 Jul 2014

Manx Telecom has said it is on track to inaugurate the Isle of Man’s first 4G network this summer, with it saying it expects around 95% of the population to be within the coverage area at launch. Further, the cellco has said that those of its customers already on a post-paid smartphone plan with a 4G-ready handset will be able to access the increased download speeds at no additional cost. It has been confirmed, however, that pre-paid subscribers will not be able to sign up for LTE-based connectivity at launch.

David Smith, Manx Telecom’s marketing director, noted: ‘4G for all has always been our goal … Achieving 95% population coverage means that the Isle of Man will be way ahead of 4G availability in the UK. Our 4G licence commitment is to achieve a minimum of 33% coverage at launch and 95% two years after launch – but we know how much our customers love new technology so we have been working hard to meet our two year target this summer.’
