Unicom rolls out SDN-based RAN in Sichuan

China’s number two telco China Unicom has rolled out a software defined networking (SDN)-based IP radio access network (RAN) in Sichuan province capital Chengdu in cooperation with domestic vendor Huawei, Total Telecom writes. With the development, Unicom aims to improve the speed with which it can roll out new Long Term Evolution (LTE) services and better respond to market demands. Qiao Guiping, general manager of Sichuan Unicom, China Unicom’s local unit said in a statement: ‘We expect these innovations to improve network operation efficiency, promote rapid innovative service delivery and go-to-market, further improve user experience in UMTS/LTE services, and create more value for our customers.’
