UTL sued by Airtel Uganda’s subsidiary Warid Telecom

23 Jun 2014

Uganda Telecom Limited (UTL) has been hit with a UGX1.9 billion (USD730,000) lawsuit by rival operator Warid Telecom over outstanding E1, local and international interconnection fees, NewVision reports. Wireless and broadband provider Warid Telecom was acquired by Airtel Uganda last year. The suit has been filed with the Kampala High Court’s commercial division, and follows a similar UGX18 billion claim against UTL from Airtel and another operator, MTN Uganda, in 2011.
