The New Zealand internet service provider (ISP) CallPlus has confirmed that it has acquired rival operator Orcon, following speculation last week that a deal was close to completion. As reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate last week, CallPlus currently sits in third place in the country’s broadband internet market, with around 8% of all subscribers, while Orcon is just behind with 5%. The combined operation will still lie well behind second-placed ISP Vodafone, however, which claims 32% of all users according to a Commerce Commission report. The deal is expected to close on 1 July, while financial terms have not been disclosed.
