14 May 2014

Telecel, Zimbabwe’s second largest cellco in terms of subscribers, has announced that its network footprint covered 85% of the country’s populated areas as of 31 March 2014, All Africa reports. The company has invested over USD50 million in network expansion projects since 2012, with a Telecel’s spokesperson cited as saying: ‘Coverage is an important area of focus for Telecel and we continue to work on increasing it along with the network quality for both voice and data’.

Meanwhile, the operator has also introduced a video calling service, which allows subscribers to have face-to-face conversations by making use of the camera on compatible mobile phones. Obert Mandimika, Telecel’s communications and branding director, commented: ‘The introduction of the video calling service is centred on our objective of providing an ever wider range of products and services for different segments of our clientele’.
