Viettel, MTN, UK firm in three-horse race for Telkom Kenya?

6 May 2014

A three-horse race to buy out Orange Group’s 70% stake in Telkom Kenya is underway, Standard Digital reports citing anonymous sources close to the ailing full-service operator. Viettel Group, which completed due diligence on Telkom in October 2013, has been named as one interested party, alongside South Africa-based MTN Group and an anonymous UK-owned company. MTN and the UK firm both tabled offers for Telkom in April 2014, the online news journal notes. However, the source muddied the waters by adding: ‘There are also powerful locally vested interests bent on acquiring Orange’.
