Digicel Bermuda launches BMD2.50 daily 50MB data plan for PAYG users

6 May 2014

Digicel Bermuda has launched a new mobile broadband internet data plan for pre-paid customers, allowing users to access up to 50MB of data per day for a cost of BMD2.50 (USD2.50). Customers wishing to take advantage of the offer need to dial a short number to activate the service, which is available on iOS and Android smartphones. Digicel commercial director Alistair Beak noted, ‘Many customers use their smartphones primarily for apps and the pre-paid daily data plan gives them an easy way to stay online.’

In August 2013 CommsUpdate reported that from 1 October Digicel Bermuda customers could enjoy the ‘lowest rates ever for SMS, voice and data roaming’ in the US, after the parent group eliminated roaming charges in Digicel’s Caribbean networks. On 9 August that year, pan-Caribbean wireless carrier Digicel said it would no longer charge roaming rates for its subscribers travelling within its Caribbean footprint and the US. Under the new strategy, customers pay domestic rates for voice, SMS and data whilst roaming in the Caribbean and the US. The offering was trialled as the ‘Same Rates a Yaad’ plan in Jamaica, before being rolled out to Barbados, Panama and Trinidad and Tobago.
