Telecom to launch handsets ahead of rumoured FD-LTE licensing

24 Apr 2014

Marbridge Daily writes that third-placed cellco China Telecom is planning to launch eight new 4G smartphones on 1 May amidst rumours that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) will allocate Frequency Division Long Term Evolution (FD-LTE) licences later that month. The eight handsets will reportedly support a mixture of technologies including those currently used by the provider – CDMA and Time Division (TD)-LTE – and the anticipated FD-LTE. China Telecom, like its larger rival China Unicom, intends to use a mixture of TD-LTE and FD-LTE technologies for 4G services, whilst market leader China Mobile has focused its efforts entirely on the home-grown TD-LTE platform.
