Cosmo Bulgaria (GloBul), the country’s second-largest cellco in terms of subscribers, will start the implementation of its 2G/3G upgrade project in the town of Pernik today, with subscribers expected to experience significantly improved coverage and increased network capacity. According to a company press release, the next stage of the plan will see GloBul’s equipment in Pazardzhik be replaced between 12 May until 23 May.
As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in March 2014 GloBul awarded a contract to Chinese equipment vendor Huawei Technologies for its network upgrade project, which is scheduled to be completed by 1H15. Under the terms set out by the deal, Huawei will upgrade the operator’s 2G and 3G networks, replace and improve GloBul’s access, core and backbone transport networks, while also providing related services. Further, the agreement covers a five-year investment cycle and an eight-year maintenance period.
