VNPT applies for cable TV licence

22 Apr 2014

Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications (VNPT), the country’s state-owned national PTO, has submitted an application for a licence to provide nationwide cable TV services, the Saigon Times reports. The move follows the award of cable TV licences by the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) to military-owned telecoms operator Viettel in April 2013 and to FPT Telecom the following August. According to the report, VNPT is also seeking a licence to supply satellite television services, in order to reach islands and remote parts of the country.
