Sotelco aims to launch 4G by year-end

10 Apr 2014

Cambodian mobile operator Sotelco plans to launch a 4G LTE network in the capital Phnom Penh by the end of the year, the company’s chairman Hout Vanthan is quoted by the Phnom Penh Post as saying. In April 2013 international telecoms group Vimpelcom sold its entire 90% stake in Sotelco to Vanthan, increasing the local businessman’s ownership to 100%. Vanthan said that he hopes the launch of high speed mobile data services will increase Sotelco’s share in the wireless market. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, Smart Axiata launched the mobile sector’s first commercial LTE services at six locations in Phnom Penh at the start of the year.
