Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTCL), the country’s incumbent fixed line operator, has reported revenue from goods and services of BWP1.357 billion (USD151.8 million) for the twelve months ended 31 March 2013, an increase of 15.6% from BWP1.174 billion the previous year. Growth was driven by a 58% year-on-year rise in mobile revenue from BWP206 million to BWP325 million, while turnover from data and private circuits increased 12% from BWP455 million to BWP510 million, helping to offset declines in national and international fixed voice revenues, which fell 2% and 7% year-on-year, respectively. Including interest income, overall revenue totalled BWP1.375 billion for the year ended 31 March 2013, compared to BWP1.187 million twelve months earlier, while profit for the year climbed from BWP236.9 million to BWP273.6 million over the same period. State-owned BTCL, which is set to undergo privatisation, offers fixed telephony and broadband services, as well as wireless telephony via its wholly owned mobile subsidiary beMobile.
