Omani telecoms operator Nawras, part of the Ooredoo Group, has announced the launch of High Definition (HD) voice technology, providing high sound quality for calls between mobile phones. At present, the HD voice network is available across the whole of Muscat and Batinah region and will be rolled out over the entire modernised Nawras network over the coming months. ‘We are the first operator in Oman and third in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) who have adopted this state-of-the-art HD voice network technology,’ commented Wolfgang Wemhoff, chief technology officer at Nawras, adding: ‘Certified by the GSM Association, Nawras customers can now enjoy amazing clarity on voice calls even in noisy environments, such as near a highway or in a shopping mall. This is possible due to the clever way that the technology is able to reduce background sounds and boost the speaker’s voice.’
