Moroccan telecoms regulator Agence Nationale de Reglementation de Telecom (ANRT) has announced that the country’s Prime Minister Abdel-llah Benkiran has approved the launch of a Long Term Evolution (LTE) tender. However, the watchdog stopped short of providing a timeframe for the process. As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in September 2013 ANRT director El Azdine Mountassir Billah announced that 4G LTE technology will be available in the country by early-2015. The award of LTE-suitable spectrum to Moroccan cellcos is long overdue, with local media reports originally claiming that auction would take place in early 2013.
