EE offers customers roaming access to 4G in France and Spain

14 Mar 2014

EE, the UK’s largest cellco by subscribers, has announced that it has struck deals which will allow its customers to access 4G services when travelling in either France or Spain. The company said that the development represented ‘the first of a series of outbound roaming agreements that will allow EE customers to enjoy 4G speeds in the world’s most popular travel destinations’. While consumer and small business customers are able to immediately connect to 4G when travelling in the aforementioned countries, similar benefits for corporate customers will be available ‘soon’. Looking ahead, EE has said it will extend its 4G coverage across major roaming destinations including the US, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands by the summer. Previously, in December 2013 EE announced inbound 4G roaming for US travellers in the UK.

Commenting on the development, EE CEO Olaf Swantee said: ‘EE already has the biggest and fastest 4G network in the UK – now we’re also allowing our customers to stay connected on 4G when they’re abroad. Our customers will be the first to benefit in France and Spain today, with the most popular travel destinations to follow in the coming months.’
