Outremer Telecom, a subsidiary of Luxembourg-based Altice Group, has enlisted French-US telecoms vendor Alcatel-Lucent to deploy 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology in its five markets of operation: French Guiana in South America, Martinique and Guadeloupe in the Caribbean, and Reunion and Mayotte in the Indian Ocean. Alca-Lu’s ‘LTE overlay solution’ will see Outremer’s 2G/3G legacy core network swapped out and replaced with a new LTE radio access network. In addition, the new equipment will include Evolved Packet Core (EPC) and Centralised Subscriber Data Manager functionality; the latter consolidates profile data from across the mobile network to enable the creation of personalised services.
