Turkish wireless operator Turkcell has expressed its interest in entering the Pakistani market through the upcoming 3G/4G auction, at a meeting with senior Pakistani officials – including the Minister of State for IT and the Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) – at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. According to Pro Pakistani, the Pakistani delegation stressed the potential opportunities in the market and certainty of good returns on investment, noting that 98% of the population were yet to be connected by wireless broadband services. Representatives from the Turkish provider meanwhile explained the cellco’s e-service initiatives in its domestic market, emphasising in particular its e-health and e-education programmes. A high-level delegation from Turkcell is expected to visit Pakistan shortly to study the market more closely.
