Omnitel, Lithuania’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, has revealed that it upgraded its 3G network throughout the south west of the country last month. According to a press release from the company, base stations in Klaipeda, Sakiai, Silale, Silute, Taurage and Vilkaviskis have now been upgraded with dual carrier (DC)-HSPA+ 3.5G and 4G LTE technology. Last month the TeliaSonera-owned operator announced that its LTE network had been expanded to cover 40% of the population; by the end of the year Omnitel is aiming to increase this to 50%, while also hoping to provide 3G coverage to the whole of the country.
