Etisalat Nigeria has announced that its mobile subscriber base has exceeded 18 million, around five years after the cellco launched commercial GSM services, WorldStage reports. The figure is up from the 17 million customers announced last month and the roughly 14.91 million reported at the end of 2012. ‘The swift and steady growth in our subscriber numbers is evidence of the acceptance we have enjoyed from our customers and the superior products and services we offer,’ noted Etisalat’s acting CEO Matthew Willsher, adding: ‘We are delighted to have been able to hit such a figure in just five years of commercial operations despite our position as the fifth entrant into the dynamic Nigerian telecoms market.’ Etisalat Nigeria is 40%-owned by United Arab Emirates (UAE) telecoms operator Etisalat, with 30% owned by UAE government investment vehicle Mubadala Development Company.
