China’s ZTE has confirmed the completion of a commercial 10G PON full-service test for Spanish operator Jazz Telecom (Jazztel). With the vendor noting that the GPON and 10G PON co-existence test had demonstrated that its 10G PON solution is both backward and forward compatible, it said that the network had been commercially tested using ITU-T G.987-compliant test schemes. Jose Miguel Garcia Fernandez, Jazztel’s chief executive officer, said of the development: ‘Jazztel needs to constantly innovate in order to provide our customers with the best possible service and ensure our competitiveness. The ZTE xGPON solution enables the expansion of our fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network capabilities in an effective manner.’
Jazztel selected ZTE to build a national high-speed broadband FTTH network in November 2012, with commercial services over the infrastructure launched in October 2013. Under the contract between the duo, ZTE provided Jazztel with an end-to-end turnkey solution that includes a full range of services including equipment, engineering and maintenance.
