French network operator Bouygues Telecom has announced that it will commercially deploy LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) technology in the cities of Bordeaux and Lyon in June 2014. The first data terminals compatible with this technology will be offered by Bouygues Telecom in the second quarter of 2014. According to the company’s press release, in October 2013 Bouygues trialled the technology and achieved downlink of 182Mbps by aggregating frequencies in the 800MHz, 1800MHz and 2600MHz spectrum bands. The company pointed out that the maximum theoretical throughput in LTE-A is dependent on the width of the aggregated frequency bands: the higher the bandwidth, the greater the flow.
