Brazil’s largest cellular operator by subscribers, Vivo, has signed an agreement with SES to utilise satellite technology to improve mobile coverage in remote areas in the north of the country. Telefonica-backed Vivo will use 290MHz of the satellite operator’s C band frequencies to meet the increasing demand for 3G data services in towns and cities across the Amazon region, while also improving voice coverage to rural and remote areas.
