Wind, 3 rumours re-surface; EUR3-EUR4bn price-tag mooted

7 Feb 2014

According to widespread Italian media reports, merger negotiations between Wind Telecomunicazioni (Wind Italy) and Hutchison Whampoa-backed 3 Italia are underway once more, with a price-tag of between EUR3 billion (USD4.1 billion) and EUR4 billion likely to be affixed to debt-racked Vimpelcom unit Wind.

Previously, in July 2013 Telecom Italia (TI) abandoned its own talks with Hutchison over a possible tie-up, but the Hong Kong firm remains keen to boost its Italian assets after agreeing in-market takeovers in both Austria (Orange Austria) and Ireland (O2 Ireland) last year.
