Pan-African 4G operator Smile Communications has launched a pilot LTE network in Lagos and plans to extend services to other cities this year, the Technology Times reports. Smile rolled out a commercial LTE broadband access network in Ibadan in the first quarter of 2013, after launching East Africa’s first 4G LTE network in the Tanzanian city of Dar es Salaam in August 2012. The group, which was founded in 2007, is also operational in Uganda, where it introduced LTE for consumers in Kampala in June 2013.
