Avantel enlists NSN for complete LTE rollout

21 Jan 2014

Mobile sector newcomer Avantel has selected Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) to roll out its Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile infrastructure, the Fininish vendor announced in a press release. Under the build-operate-transfer agreement, NSN will deliver an LTE network using its Flexi Multiradio 10 base stations and Evolved Packet Core (EPC). In addition, NSN will install its NetAct management system and Performance Manager for network optimisation and monitoring as well as its Subscriber Data Management solution, including its New Technology Home Location Register (NT-HLR). In order to ensure that 4G users will be able to access voice services, the vendor will also provide its Mobile Voice Core solution with Circuit Switch Fallback (CFSB) in the initial phase of the rollout. In the second stage of the deployment, NSN will install its IMS solution to enable provision of high-definition (HD) voice services via voice-over-LTE (VoLTE).

According to NSN’s release, Colombian trunking operator Avantel currently serves approximately 20,000 corporate and governmental clients with push-to-talk (PTT) services, but the company is now moving into the mobile mainstream via a planned USD250 million 4G network investment following its win of AWS-band frequencies in June 2013.
