The Communications Authority of Maldives has reported that the island nation ended 2013 with a total of 625,161 mobile subscribers, up from 560,547 twelve months earlier, but down slightly compared to 628,157 at 30 September 2013. Pre-paid users accounted for the majority (88.2%, or 551,410) of wireless users at end-2013, with mobile broadband customers totalling 90,058 at that date, up from 69,641 a year earlier. According to the regulator, fixed broadband subscribers reached 20,351 (up from 18,059 at 31 December 2012) and the number of fixed telephony lines (including payphones) fell slightly from 24,153 to 22,557 over the twelve-month period.
