Following a cable theft in the municipality of Santa Rita in Honduras, over 1,200 subscribers of state-owned Honduran Telecommunications Company (Hondutel) were left without fixed line telephone services, local news agency La Prensa reports. According to the article, 50% of Hondutel’s subscribers in ten neighbourhoods and districts were affected by the disruption, which occurred on 30 December 2013. Earlier this year, the struggling telco alleged that its operations were being ‘sabotaged’ after a similar fault affected 2,500 users in the municipalities of Railings, Las Acacias and Medina.
